Working in the ski team for Equity, I jump at every opportunity possible to travel out to the Alps. Winter is my favourite time of year, I love the mountains, I love to ski and I love the rewarding feeling of meeting the party leaders face-to-face having worked with them for many years to co-ordinate their school ski trips.
I was delighted to have been invited on the Equity Easter Group Ski Inspection Visit where 5 members of our Equity Ski Team would be taking a group of 25 teachers around our Equity Club properties and skiing in each resort. How often do you get the chance to ski 5 resorts in 5 days?!
We split into approximate ski ability groups on our first morning and taking the short walk across the road from Equity Club Roma where we would be staying for the week. We met our ski instructors on the piste front, ready to ski Claviere. This was a fantastic location for everyone to find their ski legs and our guide led us around the resort at a leisurely pace. We met with the rest of our group before midday and we were now ready to all ski over the border from Italy to France together.
Skiing down into Montgenèvre, we received a warm welcome at Equity Club Rois Mages and after offering us a welcome drink on the sunny slope facing bar terrace, the hotel manager invited us in for lunch – jacket potatoes with lots of different fillings and salad options – one of the schools’ favourites. After a tour around the hotel, including a chance to see the popular downstairs games room, most of the group set off to ski in Montgenèvre for the afternoon before we returned to Claviere for our authentic 4-course Italian evening meal served at Equity Club Roma.
The third resort we saw was Le Corbier, where we were greeted and given a tour of Equity Club Le Mont Corbier by the hotel manager and resort rep. Our Ski Manager, Jonny, then took some of our group out for a ski away day to St Sorlin D’Arves. Having spent two winter seasons working in the same resort, his enthusiasm and knowledge on the resort truly inspired our group. The other half of our group were led around Le Corbier by one of the local ESF (Ecole du Ski Francais) instructors and together we skied over to La Toussiere. This nearby resort is where groups often travel to for additional evening activity options such as bowling and ice skating, before heading back to Equity Club Le Mont Corbier to enjoy some lunch, sunshine, a swim in resort’s outside pool and giant jenga on the terrace!
In Serre Chevalier, after stopping off in Equity Club Olympic where we were kindly welcomed with coffee and cake, a group of us were fortunate enough to be introduced to and led around the resort by the director of the ESF (Ecole du Ski Francais). His eagerness to show us as much of the resort as possible led us to move quickly all morning and ski right across from Chantemerle to Monetier, one of the 4 resorts that make up the 250km ski area of Serre Chevalier. Several of the party leaders on our trip had already booked to travel here for next year and a tour like this was invaluable for their pre-trip preparation. Despite the director’s advice to not visit any of the other resorts (as he was certain that Serre Chevalier was the best resort in the world), we were all looking forward to our visit to our final full day of skiing and resort visit in Risoul.
Equity Club Le Morgan is just a 2-minute walk across to the slopes. Moving through the corridor that leads to the Risoul piste front, we found ourselves immediately surrounded by the snowy slopes that lead down to the chairlifts. The Equity Club Morgan resort rep spent some time explaining the evening activities available in the resort and a created a buzz of interest when explaining that, as well as ESF torch-lit descent shows that run once a week through February, each week this winter season the students had enjoyed going out and watching a big air bag ski jump show outside of the nearby Grotte du Yeti. This led most of our group to choose to ski over to Vars, the connecting resort, to go and have a look at its world-famous snow park. We enjoyed racing down the long wide runs before heading back to Risoul, exhausted.
Overall, the Equity Easter Group Ski Inspection Visit was a perfect send-off to the end of the ski season and I’d recommend anyone who can to go. Take the opportunity to meet like-minded people and be looked after of by the wonderful staff in our Equity Club hotels and ski some fantastic resorts. "
