School ski holidays in Bad Kleinkirchheim
Excellent choice for all skiing abilities. Fantastic value and quality with an exceptional range of après ski facilities.
Bad Kleinkirchheim, or more popularly BKK, is the home of Austrian ski legend Franz Klammer, the greatest downhill racer of all time, who made his reputation here and latterly designed the World Cup downhill course. It's not an over-glamorous resort though, fame hasn't gone to its head, and so you can expect traditional Carinthian warmth and a friendly welcome.
The skiing is fantastic for intermediates with over 75% of the runs being blue or red. It spreads over 2 connected areas -BKK and St Oswald. St Oswald has some gentle, cruising runs including a long, looping blue from the top of the mountain right to the valley floor, which is a guaranteed thigh-burner for even the freshest legs. The more testing skiing is on the Badkleinkirchheim side, where good intermediates and advanced skiers will enjoy exciting, long reds through the trees, a couple of testing blacks and the famous World Cup downhill, which is a "must-do" for intermediates by the end of the week. It's a long, beautiful and testing run with a series of camel humps that are great fun when skied at a sane speed. Both Badkleinkirchheim and St Oswald have good village nursery slopes and numerous blue runs providing excellent progression for beginners. Over 50km is covered by snow cannons! Badkleinkirchheim loves snowboarders. There's a floodlit park and the Crazy Carving snowboard school.
Like all Austrian resorts, the fun doesn't stop when the lifts close. There are plenty of après ski and non-ski activities to keep everyone busy in the pleasant old spa town of BKK. St Oswald is a quiet hamlet but school groups can use their coach for travelling to BKK and party leaders can also take cheap taxis for individual visits. All in all this is an ideal resort for schools.
