School ski holidays in St Johann In Tirol
Wonderful skiing area for beginners and intermediates and a picturesque, traditional village.
Sunny slopes, powder snow and wide pistes - welcome to St Johann in Tirol! This small, picturesque mountain village is located between the mighty Kitzbüheler Horn and the stunning Wilder Kaiser mountains and offers 60km of good local skiing for all abilities. This area is also part of the fantastic Schneewinkel which has 55 lifts and a massive 170 kilometers of impeccable runs, all of which is included on the pass.
St Johann is particularly good for beginners and early intermediates and there is a large, dedicated nursery area on the gentle slopes behind the station where groups will take their first lessons. Access to the main mountain is by a two-stage gondola which brings you up to the Harschbichl summit at 1700m. Progression here is excellent and beginners will soon be able to attempt the more challenging runs below the second section of the gondola back down to the resort.
Intermediate skiers will find plenty of scope with a wonderful range of skiing. The resort also has a terrain park beneath the Penzing chair and a halfpipe at Eichenhof.
The slopes here are mainly north facing and the snow record is superb meaning groups normally enjoy great conditions. However, starting in winter 07/08, Austria's most modern snowmaking system goes into service with a fully automatic network that can cover most of the area if required.
The village itself is built in traditional Tyrolean style. It's traditional and charming with a real picture postcard feel and it's traffic free which means groups can wander around safely. Nightlife is reasonably quiet but there are lots of good restaurants to enjoy as well as a good choice of après ski activities including ice skating, bowling and sleigh rides.
