School ski holidays in Zugspitz Arena

Great variety of skiing on a massive area with plenty of après ski and Austrian charm.

The fabulous Zugspitz Arena ski area is located just south of the German border and is dominated by the impressive Zugspitz peak which rises to almost 3000m. The area is made up of 7 separate resorts which together form a single massive ski region of over 150km. Each of the resorts has its own mountain lift and the whole area is well linked by an efficient, modern lift system as well as a free ski bus. There is a massive amount of variety on offer with enough to keep any level of skier satisfied.

Essentially the skiing is split into an upper and a lower section, with most of the harder skiing being on the top slopes. Most of our groups stay at Lermoos which is situated in a bowl with the neighbouring resort of Ehrwald on the opposite side and has 30 well prepared slopes served by 4 tow lifts, 5 chair lifts and a cable car. This is a great place to start as there is a gently sloping nursery area just above the village which allows beginners plenty of room for big turns to build confidence.

Progression here is fast so groups can soon start to explore further up the mountain to the Grubigstein area where the runs are mainly intermediate and are protected by trees if the weather closes in. The pistes here are mostly reds but a confident novice should have no problems negotiating them.

The great value ski pass includes the awesome Zugspitz glacier which straddles the Austrian/German border. Here you’ll find another mainly intermediate ski area with wide, treeless slopes up high and some twisty forest paths below. Advanced skiers will be happy with the variety of runs on offer and the outstanding off-piste.

With a top lift of just under 3000m, the glacier is a ‘must do’ before the end of the week, even if it’s just for the scenery from the café perched on the top of the mountain!

Lermoos itself is a typical Tyrolean village, full of chocolate box charm, with plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops. There is a full range of après ski on offer and groups will find everything they need for a successful school ski course.
