School ski holidays in La Clusaz
A very well-rounded resort, with a combination of great terrain, good snow record, and traditional village.
La Clusaz is a charming old Savoyard village and is one of the prettiest, most established ski resorts in the Alps. Although largely unknown outside France, La Clusaz has produced 9 skiing world champions! It never fails to win visitors over with its traditional village feel, genuine sense of community and great selection of bars, shops and restaurants. Add to this a superb variety of skiing in the La Clusaz area alone, plus a further 80km of piste in the neighbouring resort of Le Grand Bornand, and you have a resort that is a great choice for school groups.
Located just 20km from Annecy and its lake, La Clusaz is a fairly large resort offering a total of 132km of pistes. It's spread over five mountains meaning there is lots of scope for varied skiing particularly for beginners and intermediates. La Clusaz itself sits at a comparatively low 1100m with the highest point of the area at 2600m. However, lying at the centre of the Massif des Aravis this area enjoys snowfall that is often the envy of higher resorts and there are also extensive snowmaking facilities.
Groups take the Beauregard gondola, which transports 1700 people per hour, up to the plateau where the slopes are ideal for moderate skiers. Here you can enjoy the length and great snow conditions of slopes such as the Cret du Loup or venture onto beautiful tree lined slopes back down to the "Domaine de l'Etale". More advanced skiers will be more stretched by the Massif de la Balme with lots of steep, red runs such as the Croix Fry. There are also some challenging black runs or adventurous skiers may wish to take the gondola that links to Cote 2000 on the Massif de l'Aiguille where there is a large choice of slopes of varying levels leading back to village level.
When it comes to the village, La Clusaz's big attraction is its traditional atmosphere. There are also lots of non-ski activities, including an ice rink and swimming pool, as well as some excellent Savoyard restaurants to sample.
