School ski holidays in Puy St Vincent

A purpose built resort set in spectacular setting. Diverse skiing with many long runs.

Close to Briançon and handy for both Turin and the motorway, PSV is a typical, purpose built ski station but with an untypically diverse ski range. It is extremely convenient as the pistes end in front of the village, so walking is minimal and queues are rare. Snow reliability is a feature here, ensured by a microclimate that usually produces season-long cover, as well as 300 days of sunshine a year! The best of both worlds! We have known bigger resorts to struggle whilst PSV was open and thriving. This we find is characteristic of purpose-built resorts. The planners do extensive research and then invest in areas where the single most important ingredient, the snow, is a reliable feature.

The surprisingly diverse skiing means there is a good choice for everyone, from absolute novices to adventurous black-runners. Many resorts say they cater for every type of skier, but we do not know of many that do it better than PSV, particularly in such a compact area. There is exciting bowl skiing and beautiful tracks through trees and this resort specialises in very long runs, usually blue or red, which give you more time on skis and less time riding lifts.

PSV is in the Ecrins National Park so the views are spectacular. There is an old stone-built village at 1400m, which has lots of rural charm and is connected by a lift, piste and road. The ski village is at 1600m and although some ski stations can be impersonal, this one is friendly and has a keen ski school. The hamlets of Pelvoux and Vallouise are attractive, easy to supervise and typically French. Our excellent 2 star hotel is a perfect home-from-home hotel for schools and extremely good value.

Village Facts

Although somewhat quieter than its neighbouring resorts. PSV offers better value. The village has some shopping, with restaurants, creperies to try and enough activities to keep groups entertained.
