School ski holidays in Kronplatz

One of the premier resorts of the Superski Dolomiti with a big ski area and lots of variety. An ideal choice for coach groups.

Although little known to the British skier, Kronplatz is a gem of a resort with some fantastic skiing. It offers some of the best facilities you will find in any ski resort and when we researched the area we could not believe the quality of the skiing and the power of the lift system. Even better, Kronplatz also has the longest season in the Dolomites! In fact, this area is known as ‘the White Valley’ as it is cold and the snow stays for a long time.

Situated just 25 kms from the Austrian border the native language spoken is actually German and yet this resort is still very much part of the Dolomites and the awesome Superski area. It has a very impressive lift system with modern gondolas and speedy chairs and it also boasts snowmaking on a heroic scale. Kronplatz reinvests constantly in both its lifts and its snowmaking facilities to ensure that skiers are guaranteed a fantastic experience. In addition, there are five entry points into the resort with parking and it is also the closest Italian resort to Calais (13 hours) making it an ideal choice for coach groups.

The skiing here is absolutely brilliant with an enormous variety of runs to cater for every standard.

Although not the most beautiful mountain there are stunning views from the summit. The resort is quite unique as all the local runs start from the top of the mountain and head down to the villages that are scattered around the base.

Kronplatz is particularly well-known for its long runs which are real thigh-burners when taken at speed but fortunately most of them are wide so there is plenty of room to stop and take a rest. The runs are good for practicing because there are virtually no crowds and you don’t waste time waiting for the lifts.

As in many Italian resorts, lunch is given serious priority. There are many pleasant mountain ‘rifugios’ from which you can enjoy the unforgettable Dolomiti panorama. Our hotel is comfortable and friendly with good food and plenty of space. It is located in the main town of Brunico which has a good range of facilities and lots of atmosphere.

All in all we think Kronplatz has great potential and with its great skiing, fantastic lift system and superb ski school it is set to be one of the top resorts for this season and definitely lives up to its reputation as ‘South Tyrol’s Ski Mountain Number 1’.
