We have featured Piancavallo for many years with great success and it is one of our favourite resorts for first-time school groups. The planners chose the perfect setting for this brilliant little resort, which has a typically Italian atmosphere even though it's purpose-built.
Situated in its own sunny, sheltered bowl the resort boasts amazing views; from the highest peaks, on a sunny day, you can see as far as the Adriatic Sea while all around you is spectacular Dolomiti mountain scenery.
Piancavallo has the security of powerful snow-making and all of its slopes are covered. It was, in fact, amongst the first resorts to offer a snow guarantee. The lift system is also particularly well planned.
Beginners benefit from a wide area for practicing their turns and they will also enjoy the changing scenic views as they make their way down the slopes. Ski progression is notably good and the ski school is excellent.
Piancavallo has hosted World Cup races and although small is a serious skier's resort with a lot more skiing than you may think from the map! Many of the runs, officially measured only once, have 2 or 3 alternative routes.
Our school groups are usually beginners and early intermediates and Piancavallo suits them perfectly. The pistes fan out from the village centre and provide a good mix of long, easy runs and more challenging intermediate skiing which all connect well. Everybody, even beginners, is able to ski back to the resort at the end of the day.
With comfortable ski-lift facilities, safe slopes and a modern artificial snow-making system this is a convenient and reliable choice for school groups.
