An attractive and friendly resort that's great for beginners. Plenty of après ski entertainment ensures a perfect all-round resort.
Aprica is a very friendly resort situated on a sunny plateau high in the Valtellina, between the Brenta dolomites and Lake Como. The resort itself is spread along a valley at 1181m and is very convenient as it has lift access to the pistes at almost every point. The ski area is largely made up of mountain trails through the woods, but towards the top of there are a number of wide runs on a sunny plateau. We find Aprica is particularly suited to beginners as most of the runs finish in the village so access is particularly quick and easy.
From nursery slopes to World Cup runs, there is good skiing for all abilities. Novices have the best of it here as the resort has a vast beginners area with forgiving slopes for first time skiers. There are wide, uncrowded runs for beginners at village level which are serviced by drag and chairlifts. Progression here is easy and soon beginners will be able to tackle the long blue runs down from the higher slopes at 1700m. Following the construction of a 4 person hooded chairlift in San Pietro, there are now three main interlinking ski areas - the Magnolta, the Palabione and the Baradello.
Having mastered your technique, the new area of Baradello with its long reds and, for the more adventurous, black runs is ready to be explored. Or head to Dosso Paso, which offers the highest skiing at 2240m. From here the descent is through a superb network of runs on wide open snow fields. If you are getting a little tired then you can stop off at the large circular restaurant at the middle station for a refreshing drink.
Off the slopes Aprica is a well established and friendly resort, with plenty to see and do. There is a good choice of pizzerias, bars with karaoke, coffee shops and discos, plus saunas, a cinema and indoor swimming at the modern sports/spa centre. Aprica also has an ice skating rink which is floodlit at night.
