School ski holidays in Vermont, Killington

Internationally recognised resort and more mountain than you can ski in a week.

Killington is the Premier Ski Resort of the East Coast, covering some 11 miles from border to border, with 7 mountain peaks and the greatest vertical drop in New England. It has a good natural snow record and a Herculean snowmaking system. Known as 'The Beast of the East' by American skiers, due to its size, it can live up to several large claims: most skiing, most varied terrain and highest capacity lifts in the East. With 200 trails to choose from, every ski ability has loads of choice.

Beginners are taught in the 'Snowshed' area. This is a controlled beginners only area, with some amazing wide-open terrain, perfect for nervous novices. Once basic turns are mastered, there is virtually the whole mountain to explore on easy blues. Try the 'Juggernaut', at 6.6 miles the longest green in the world. There is an abundance of intermediate cruisers and long thigh-burners on all Killington's 7 peaks. Good intermediate and advanced skiers have knee-buckling bumps, breath-grabbing steeps and long cruisers. Favourites like 'Downdraft', 'Ovation', and of course 'Outer Limits', the steepest mogul slope in New England, speak for themselves. The true expert will be challenged by 'Wild Thing' or 'Fusion Zone'.

These trails are left to nature and they are only for the stout hearted. The design of the mountain means that there is a variety of terrain from the top of each lift, so there is always an easy option. What's also impressive is that on several runs, half the trail is groomed and the other half is left 'au naturel', so the same trail can be skied in several different ways, and if you run out of puff there's an escape route!

The town of Rutland is a 30 minute drive, and there are several activities to chose from here as well, like a multi-screen cinema, ice skating, bowling or shopping malls. A firm favourite with groups is the Factory Outlet Shopping in Manchester, which is just over an hour's drive away. There are some great shops with irresistible bargains. It's not unusual for people to go home with a lot more luggage than they arrived with.

Our accommodation offers great choice to our groups ranging from on-mountain hotels located 5-15 minutes ride from the baselodge, or our fantastic value hotels in Rutland.
