School ski holidays in Tremblant
Tremblant is unique in North American skiing. Voted best ski resort in the North East for 7 years running, it is owned by the same company as Whistler (regularly voted the greatest ski resort in the world) and has been transformed beyond recognition in recent years. There are plans to triple its size in the next 10 years so get in quick before they put the prices up!
Purpose-built for skiers but a far cry from the 1st generation French monstrosities you may have experienced, it’s a charming, compact and lively ski village, with pedestrianised streets and slope-side accommodation. It’s built in the style of old Quebec, with bright, pastel-coloured buildings hugging the narrow, cobbled streets; it’s as close to chocolate box charm as you will find on that side of the pond.
Tremblant is renowned for top quality ski tuition and is very popular with families. The skiing is designed especially for beginners and intermediates and offers superb nursery runs, meandering trails through trees and scenic cruises everywhere on the mountain. This is the biggest ski area in Eastern Canada so there’s plenty to do. Although the number of lifts is surprisingly small, that testifies to the superb piste design, because the number of runs they serve is huge. It’s a great choice for school groups because beginners don’t get stuck on the same boring slope. Long, looping paths snake down the mountain and gentle, wide motorways at altitude enable interesting journeys. There’s plenty of mileage on fast blues and testing black diamonds for intermediates on the south face. The north face has plenty to challenge expert skiers with a variety of bump runs and Canada’s steepest trail called ‘Dynamite’ with a 42 degree pitch! Tremblant also boasts the most powerful snowmaking system in Canada.
The are a host of non-ski activities including snowshoe hikes, snow-mobiles, dog sleds, good local shopping, plenty of bars and a £2m Acquaclub pool complex built to resemble a lake in a forest and has a superb heated outdoor pool. The cafes and restaurants serve everything from a light snack to a gastronomic feast. This is a complete ski resort with including some steep runs for experts. Tremblant is a complete resort. From the skiing to the aprés ski, the culture of the Quebecois to their legendar hospitality.
