Did you know?
Les Orres has a piste named L'Horrible
designed to scare!!
Friendly, snow-sure, purpose-built resort that’s extremely convenient.
Both our hotels have fantastic locations near the slopes.
This friendly, safe, purpose-built resort high up on a sunny plateau is perfect for school groups. The whole resort has been built for convenience and it's no more than a short walk to everything you may need. Everywhere seems to be central yet close to the slopes!
There is a good range of skiing for most abilities, but particularly for beginners up to strong intermediates, which is exactly what a school ski resort should be like. The snow-sure, north-facing slopes surround the village, which occupies the centre of a large white amphitheatre. Most of the beginner runs are on the lower 3rd of the mountain with wide gentle slopes just above the village and plenty of blues a little further up. Some of the nursery slopes are in the best snow. The well-designed lift system means that supervision is easy and progression is swift.
After a few days, most beginners will be able to access much of the mountain. The Grand Cabane (at 6kms the longest run in the Southern Alps) is almost a whole day out in itself! It starts at the top of the system and travels west on high sunny slopes before heading right back into the heart of the village. Confident beginners should be able to complete it by the end of the week for a real sense of achievement. Intermediates and advanced s will be perfectly content for a week. Experts will need more challenge but there is some terrific off-piste. Les Orres is a resort with big ambitions and there are plans to open up the other side of the Grand and Petit Vallon's with new lifts in 2008. Although Les Orres village is fairly small, it's compact and complete, and everything you need for the week is here so you won't have to venture far in the evening.
There is also a new 600m covered skating rink in the 'Bois Méon' area of Les Orres which can be easily accessed via pedestrian walkway.
