Give your students a taste of the high Alps by bringing them to Obertauern – one of the highest ski resorts in Austria. Easy piste access makes mornings run smoothly and the views across the Tauern Mountains are simply stunning. Your students can get equally excited about the après activities, including bowling, swimming, spectating ice hockey matches and a range of fantastic in-house entertainment, plus there are shops and restaurants in the town itself.
Obertauern is a purpose-built resort, but still retains a delightful traditional Austrian charm. The resort prides itself on being the most snow-sure in Austria, often staying open from November all the way into May.
The main town sits in a breathtaking position high in a mountain pass with spectacular panoramic views of the resort and the Austrian Alps. The lift system fans out from a central point, creating a circuit route to guide your group around the ski area. Progression tends to be fast, with 96km of interconnecting beginner and intermediate pistes for your students to practice on.
This Austrian gem is bursting with history and culture. Did you know in 1965 The Beatles came here to film scenes for the film “Help”? To this day, the resort features numerous Beatles memorabilia and art installations – see how many your students can spot! The resort also comes alive in February with the arrival of its annual “Winterfest” where professional skiers and snowboarders put on a spectacle, showcasing their most impressive tricks and stunts.

Skiing
Gentle novice slopes give an easy introduction for learners, while the range of reds in the wider ski area create the perfect playground for intermediates. But Obertauern’s real trump card is its unique ski circuit, which leads you around the ski area.
Wherever you ski, you’ll be surrounded by spectacular scenery and, when each ski day draws to a close, the runs back to the village are fantastic.
